Fit Feelings is a brand new educational program that will help you prepare your child for Prep in 2019.
My Son is starting Prep next year, so I completely understand what parents go through trying to get their children (& themselves) ready to start school. They will learn literacy & numeracy at school & starting this early is wonderful, but the one thing that they will not be fully prepared for, or correctly learn at school, is the emotional pressure that school throws them into.
Children are asked to grow up quickly when they hit Prep. Everything changes, they go from warm, friendly, fun social environments where they get a hug if they fall over or become upset (home, playgroups & daycare) to a very cold, pressured, learning, school environment where there are strictly no hugs & no emotional support offered by teachers.
The education system has become cold due to the facts that parents have requested it this way; hoping that this would protect our children. But in my opinion it has done more harm than good for children in junior primary. The education system will not change overnight, but I believe that children still need junior primary as a warmer shade of the educational system blues it has currently, to nurture this impressionable age group into the school environment.
This is where I come in… I want to help you transition your child emotionally so they can cope with starting school.
The reason behind Fit Feelings
Due to the growing statistics of declining mental health & personal development in Australia & the fact that there is no magic fix or APP for this issue. I have tackled it the old-fashioned way & developed a community approach for children to become emotionally prepared for what’s to come in the first couple of years at school called Fit Feelings.
I have been working with classrooms of children from the ages of 2 – 12, for the past two years & have noticed that children are missing this crucial developmental milestone of being able to correctly identify, communicate & respond to their emotions. I am an Author, Workshop Presenter, Teacher Aide & a mother of 2 boys (aged 2 & 4). This program is field developed from firsthand experience, helping children practice techniques that combat anxiety & face issues in a safe, calm & socially friendly environment rather than being thrown into emotional situation with no experience.
Fit Feelings workshops are developed for children aged 3 – 8 years old. It is based within the developmental milestones principles of knowing & believing in yourself. In my experience & all the case studies I have read, once this developmental milestone is achieved successfully, children advance through their life more effectively & confidently, creating a more harmonious life for them self & those around them.
Fit Feelings Concepts
Fit Feelings Workshops are based on the concept of children understanding the difference between a Real Emotion & a Story Emotion, these are categories that this age group can understand & developmentally respond to. Our definitions are simple & easy to understand. We define Real Emotion as… how you want to feel all the time; like happy & loved. We define Story Emotion as…. something we Make Up, a bad thought, a yucky feeling that we want to pass quickly; like anger & frustration.
Throughout the hour-long session, I introduce & get the children to practice using Fit Feeling techniques to Face Up to any Story Emotion we can Make Up. The session is different every week & is taught in a natural teaching style. I would like to make it very clear that Workshops are NOT counselling sessions. I Encourage Parents to participate in the session with their child. I am always open to speaking to the parent before signing up to discuss any questions they may have about the class.
I believe that there are simple solutions to some mental illnesses & it all starts with being able to Identify, Communicate & Respond appropriately to our emotions. Our best option is to help children develop this early, this way they can grow to become confident & happy adults.
I currently have spots available in my Sunday Class starting on the 22nd July 2018.
